It’s no secret that moving can be a stressful, time-consuming, and overwhelming process. You’ve purchased your dream home and can’t wait to move in but the actual process of moving is exhausting. As Professional Organizers we’ve organized and overseen our fair share of moving projects, and we’ve compiled 5 ways to simplify the process.

If you are moving this year and want to make the process easier and stress-free keep on reading for these moving tips!

5 Ways to Simplify a Move

Pack a Bag for Each Family Member

Grab a bag for each member of your household and pack their essentials. This way, no one is going on a box hunt trying to find what they need and no unnecessary boxes are getting opened before you are ready to unpack.

Here are items to include:

  • Medication
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap etc)
  • Clothes (pajamas, outfits for a day or two, and shoes)
  • Toys or games for children since it may take some time before the internet or tv is ready

Create an “Open First†Box

It’s going to be tempting to try and begin unpacking everything as soon as you move into your new space but plan ahead. Remember, you will be tired, it may be late when you finally get everything inside the new house, and you may not feel up to unpacking. That’s where the “open first†box comes in. This box will have essential household items you will want on hand for your first night.

Here are items to include:

  • Snacks and nonperishable food
  • Paper towels and toilet paper
  • Paper plates and utensils
  • Wipes & cleaning supplies
  • Phone Chargers

Start a Grab and Go Folder

Designate a binder to store important documents like birth certificates, passports, and social security cards. Add in any titles and registrations for your car, boat, motorcycle, or motor home. These are all documents that can easily be lost especially in a move and it is critical that you ensure their contents are safe.

Unpack Key Spaces First

Unpacking can take a lot longer than needed if you go in without a plan. So start considering the spaces that your whole family uses the most. We recommend setting up your kitchen first before anything else. You need to eat, and kids are constantly asking for snacks. This space is one of the most time-consuming areas to unpack but once it’s done, it will really start to make your new house feel like a home.

Hire a Professional Organizer

Don’t be afraid to outsource. Oftentimes so many feel like moving is something they can do on their own so they shouldn’t need help. Not the case!  Moving is stressful enough, don’t hesitate to ask for help. You may only think about hiring professional movers, but hiring a team of organizers can simplify your move from the very beginning to the very end. Our moving services include:

  • helping you declutter and sort before the move
  • coordinating the day of your move
  • unpacking your new home and setting up systems that will allow your family to stay organized from the start

Our moving services allow you to move without worry or stress. You won’t need to lift a finger. Plus everything will be easy to find because it is organized and labeled. Don’t believe us? Here is what a recent move client had to say:

“Audra and her team helped me so much. I had just moved and with my difficult job, had trouble finding time to really unpack and make my new space feel like a home. They took all my stress away and exceeded every expectation. They treated me and my home with such respect and even embraced my pet snake and came up with organization for his things.   The next time I need help, I’m for sure calling Audra and recommending her business to alllll my friends.†– Makenzie F.
