Self-care is something I am learning to embrace more and more. I love to soak in the tub or take a walk. These help me relax and reset. Organization can also be a form of self-care and can impact your overall well-being the same way. Let us share our suggestions about how an organized home supports rest and relaxation.
#1: Use Tidying as a Way to Ground Yourself
Tidying up can function as a grounding exercise that enhances focus and mental clarity. Do you have a process for tidying up? We recommend going one space at a time and resetting them. Put items in their place, make the bed, and simplify the space. This doesn’t have to take a long time but can make a big difference in how you feel. An organized space can help you feel calmer and less overwhelmed.

#2: Make Decluttering Part of Your Weekly Routine
Try setting aside time each week to maintain organization. We suggest one area a week to declutter and reset. Move on to the next space the following week. This consistency will keep clutter at bay and, believe it or not, can lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and help prevent anxiety and depression.

#3: Make Chores More Mindful
Make mindless activities such as vacuuming and meal prep mindful by doing one task at a time, being fully present, and allowing yourself to feel accomplished at the completion of each. Getting the things that you know you have to do done is such a nice feeling. Most of the time, getting started is the hardest part.

#4: Better Habits for a Better Life
When your home is in order, other healthy habits and decisions follow. A few suggestions are meal prep, a planned exercise time, and a consistent plan for the day to help make a healthy lifestyle. Make time and a plan for the priorities, and you will be so proud of what you accomplish each day.

#5: Embrace the Art of Minimalism
Minimalism gets a bad reputation, but at its core, it isn’t about having nothing. It is about what adds value to your life. Minimalism can vary from person to person. Be more selective about what you allow in your life and in your home. Create a space that you love and one that functions well for your family.

Organization can truly be a form of self-care. It can help create an environment where you feel more calm, with less mental overwhelm. It can provide a real sense of accomplishment, reduce stress, increase relaxation, improve sleep quality, and so much more. Try some of these suggestions and see if you feel more restful and relaxed in your organized home.
