Tip #1: Declutter to Lighten Your Load
Don’t fall for the “I’ll just get rid of the things once we are at the new place.” Packing, storing, moving, and unpacking things that don’t serve you makes no sense. It also costs you more for packing supplies, storage, and moving costs. Do yourself a favor, declutter, and get rid of things that are past their prime or you have not used in over a year.
Tip #2: Prep Strategically to Speed Our Process
We encourage our clients to take down non-essentials such as artwork, decor, window treatments, shower curtains, and more to make packing faster. Also, we recommend removing trash or donations, so our team can pack everything that is going with you. Of course, we know moving can be stressful, and we will pick up wherever you left off in the process. We love taking things off of your plate and accomplishing your goals.
Tip #3: Prevent Some Packing to Streamline Your Life
Create a “pack-free zone” of essential items you and your family need now or in the first few days after moving when everything is still in boxes. This way, you will have what you need and don’t have to sort through boxes to find the kids’ favorite stuffy or those important documents.
Tip #4: Have a Plan to Guide Our Unpacking
When we pack your belongings, we label the boxes with the room name and what is in them. Labeling helps the unpacking process go much smoother because movers can unload boxes into the rooms that they belong in. From there, we suggest unpacking essential spaces first, such as the kitchen/pantry, bathrooms, and bedrooms, as time will allow. Until then, you have your bag of most needed items with you.
After unpacking these main spaces, you can gradually unpack the rest of the boxes by working space by space throughout your home. We can also unpack and set up your home for you. We love to help clients set up their new homes.
