It’s the month of love. Valentine’s Day is approaching and regardless of if you’re single or in a relationship, now is the perfect time to fall in love with organizing. We are only in month two of this new year, and if one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get organized, this blog can only help keep your momentum going.

Here’s how you can fall in love with organizing.

Start Slow

Like many relationships, things usually start slow with a text or phone call before the first date. The same goes for your relationship with organizing. One of the biggest reasons people fail or stop organizing is because they try and tackle too much at one time. Instead of trying to organize your entire garage or kitchen, start smaller with a drawer, shelf, or a reach-in closet.

This prevents you from getting overwhelmed and wanting to throw in the towel. By organizing that kitchen drawer that is overflowing, you’re able to relieve a pain point quickly and get a sense of accomplishment that will carry over to your next project.

Get Committed

Once you’ve successfully tackled a few organizing projects around your home, it’s time to commit. You now have a good idea of what organizing is like and are starting to see the benefits of an organized space in your life.

I know, commitment might seem scary but I can promise you that this is one relationship you won’t regret! Make it a goal to tackle a space in your home that is causing you stress each month. You already have a strong foundation from those smaller projects you completed at the beginning of your organizing relationship. Now commit to tackling those larger ones.

Don’t Lose the Spark

After a steady relationship, things can sometimes start to feel dull. Life gets in the way and schedules get busy so sometimes staying organized falls to the bottom of the list. Here are a few ways to spice things up.

  1. Switch out your organizing bins. Places like The Container Store and Target have really beautiful organizing products that not only keep your items organized but also level up your home’s decor.
  2. Add labels. You can hand-write labels, create ones with the help of a label maker, or purchase custom ones. Labels not only add an elegant touch, but it also helps to keep you accountable for putting things away where they belong.

Know When to Get Expert Help

Even the healthiest relationships need a little help from an expert, and your organizing relationship isn’t any different. Just because you can organize yourself doesn’t mean you have to. Especially when your time is limited or you just aren’t sure how to best tackle a certain space in your home.
