Many work from home these days, full or part-time. Many offices are disorganized and therefore difficult to work and be productive. Today on the blog, we will be sharing tips to systematize and increase home office organization. Here is 4 tips.
Tip #1: Declutter & Curate Your Workspace
A cluttered desk increases stress and mental overwhelm and decreases productivity. Here are some steps to get your desk organized: sort your desk, bookshelves, and all loose items that are on the floor.
Put things together so you can really see what you have and how many of each item. Untangle and label cords and reorganize books and other items by category. Discard any extras or things you no longer need.
Then store things where you need them most; keep the most used items close to your desk so you can grab them quickly as needed.

Tip #2: Downsize Digital Files
There is a freedom (and burden of disorganization) that comes with using digital storage. Since we all have multiple devices, you need to have a system in place that works for you. We recommend storing your files on Google Drive or something similar, where you can access your files from any device.
We also recommend having a set aside time each month, at a minimum, to clean up your digital space. Place project data in files by name and delete or discard files that you no longer need. Keeping unnecessary files will clutter up your computer and make it difficult to find what you need. Keeping a handle on your digital files will serve you well moving forward.

Tip #3: Streamline & Shred Paperwork
Having systems for incoming/outgoing mail and other important papers is important. Go through the mail each day. This can be a quick task. Have a shredder for junk mail and a basket for “to-do’s” that needs to be dealt with. Anything that can be kept digital,do! We suggest going digital to prevent a lot of paper clutter in your office and for ease of management of your documents.
Important documents should be kept 5- 7 years, especially if it has been claimed on your taxes. Digitze anything that is important or file in a file cabinet. Shred what is no longer needed.

Tip #4: Reset Your Space Weekly
Creating and implementing home office organization systems is important. You need systems that work for you long term. Set aside 30 minutes each Friday for tidying the office physically and digitally as needed. This will set the stage for a great Monday and a productive week, each week.
