The end of summer is here, and back to school is upon us. As the weather cools a little, at least here in Oklahoma, it is a great time to think about getting your garage in order. Having an organized garage is so helpful for storing kids’ items and sports gear, and it is a great space for extra storage of things you do not need in your house all the time.
A clean and organized garage also means being able to park your car in there, which is a major bonus! Let’s discuss all things garage organization…
Tip #1: Maximize Vertical Space
When organizing a garage, maximizing vertical space is really important to get the most out of the space. Here are some ideas:
- Mounting hooks on the walls
- Wall-mounted shelves
- Sturdy metal shelves
- Peg boards
These are all great add-ons that can help you get organized and use the space to its fullest, especially with all we tend to store out there.
Tip #2: Choose Clear Containers
Another tip to prevent future frustrating “treasure hunts” is to combine similar items. Use clear, lidded bins in the garage. This allows you to see what you have and helps to keep dirt and bugs away from your items. Another added bonus is that it allows you to label each bin so you know exactly what you have stored in it at a glance.
Tip #3: Create a Daily “Drop Zone”
It is common and a good probability that even after your garage is clean and organized, clutter might make its way back into your space. We encourage you to make a “drop zone” close to the entry/exit where items can be dropped that need to be dealt with. This gives you a spot to put items for future organizing or grab and go on the run.
